We are excited to introduce our new online community-based accessibility initiative, Welcome to Durham!
Our objective is to create the most accessible and easy-to-use online information resource for Durham Region residents. This site will not only cater to the Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing community, it will serve as a one-stop website for seniors, new immigrants and the general public.
Welcome to Durham! will offer information in plain English and American Sign Language (“ASL”) and will include a community business directory, links to municipal websites, an event calendar, volunteer opportunities, access to other community-based groups and much more.
About Durham Deaf Services
DDS is a non-profit organization that provides educational programs and services to the Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing community within Durham Region. Established in 1982, the aim of DDS is to promote self-reliance, reduce isolation and increase Deaf cultural awareness. We work closely with families in need of communication assistance and have developed programs specifically for children, seniors, new residents, unemployed persons and at-risk individuals. We are a grassroots organization that is focused on working directly with those in need within our community.
